Today is not the day to discuss whether the police is doing
enough to protect the community, or enough to solve the recent murders of trans women
in Baltimore. That conversation can be
had in the not too distant future, when the efforts of Baltimore's Police
Department can be viewed from a wider lens.
Right now our thoughts and prayers are with the friends and
family of Mia Henderson, Kandy Hall, Kelly Long, Tracy Johnson, and Tyra Trent,
all murdered in Baltimore since 2011.
This tragedy speaks to the unacceptable marginalization of
segments of our community and our focus must be on assisting the Police
Department in any way possible, so they may do their job and solve these
murders.
We, the entirety of the transgender community, must come together and collectively seeking permanent solutions to the problems faced in those impacted communities and it must happen now.
